Moose Mountain Pond Hike ~ May 18, 2017

Journal entry by Gail

The hike into Moose Mountain Pond turned out to be delightful, despite a worrisome forecast of 90+ degrees.  Nine of us turned out to brave the elements.

The path wound thru a beautiful pine forest, generally flat with small ups and downs.   The wide, soft trail was covered with pine needles, and very pretty and peaceful. There are a few tricky spots and it might be easy to get off the main trail if you're not familiar with it, but it's also obvious after a short stint and easy to back track.  Peter had his eye out for this leader and was rewarded with an opportunity to correct me (maybe more than once).

Along the way we spotted a good size snapping turtle.  Peter had "fun" with the turtle but I don't think the turtle had fun with Peter.  Photos will tell the story.

Lunch was great near the lean-to at the lake.  A great breeze kept the bugs away and we took our time here.

We made good time for this group - 4 3/4 hrs. on a 7 mile hike.

Thanks for making it a memorable day to Peter and Linda, Katie, Peggy, Ed, Shelley, Linda P. and Cathy C.
